I have never, NEVER seen bug free software.

So then now, how's this work then?

There are, a spokeswoman told the Eye, “no issues” with Horizon

Really? Congratulations to the developers for achieving a goal no one ever has in 30+ years of computing (counting more the PC era than things like Eniac).

Methinks this level of delusion should be saying something about where to point fault.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6346294139122251531.post-37328205756531420052013-01-28T18:30:55.655+00:002013-01-28T18:30:55.655+00:00Excellent post Nick...I did have 1 follow up query...Excellent post Nick...I did have 1 follow up query though. The Private Eye article mentions,"The Post Office remains the only body in the UK to run its own prosecutions."
I followed this up but do not see POL listed (on MoJustice site etc) as a prosecuting authority.
- Could you please shed some light on this?
Any clarification would be greatly appreciated. Once again, great post, I look forward to more in the future! That was until Friday (2nd Dec 2011). I was attempting to top up a mobile phone via an e-top up card. I swiped the card and got a transaction declined message, the receipt printed "Sorry for the inconvenience, please try again." I tried again and by the end I had four declined receipts all saying the same thing. The customer's phone then beeped telling him he had topped up successfully, yet on my screen there was a nil total and four clearly declined transations. So is the a problem with Horizon? In this instance Yes. Who can really say if there are other problems with the system?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6346294139122251531.post-71771126521568149452011-10-30T10:32:16.020+00:002011-10-30T10:32:16.020+00:00Sorry to burst your bubble 'Anonymous' but...Sorry to burst your bubble 'Anonymous' but I too have worked in the Post Office and my experience is totally different. As for using Hume in your blog...well, no-one who is caught up in this would think it is appropriate to apply his argument on Miracles here. You ask which is more likely,a computer system suddenly 'forgets', or a humans being has pressed the wrong button. Well, for one thing, a computer isn't human and so cannot 'forget' anything. However, computer programmers, trainers and technical support ARE human...and just as vulnerable to human errors as post office counter staff. If you are presumptuous enough to try to use philosophy in your response, at least have the decency to present a reasoned argument.Carol Cnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6346294139122251531.post-72352554075727904402011-10-16T09:06:43.265+01:002011-10-16T09:06:43.265+01:00I have worked for the Post Office for the last 10 ...I have worked for the Post Office for the last 10 years - in small sub offices and large crown offices. Nearly all of the losses I have seen have come from human error. I have never once seen the Horizon system misbehave. The whole thing makes me think of David Hume's philosophy on Miracles.... what is most likely: a computer system suddenly forgets how to register a sale, or a human being has pressed the wrong button ?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6346294139122251531.post-23505533777313354332011-10-01T14:31:38.323+01:002011-10-01T14:31:38.323+01:00Thanks anonymous - I didn't know PE put some o...Thanks anonymous - I didn't know PE put some of their articles online.
